For most men, shaving is an essential chore reserved for every couple of days. Not many enjoy it, but most do it. Whether you have mutton chops, a goatee or a full beard, chances are you will at least need a trim once in a while.
If you take your facial grooming really seriously, then you’ll need some serious shaving accessories for your bathroom! That’s why we’ve decided it would be a good idea to run you through our guide of the best bathroom lights and bathroom electrical items to help you with your next shave.
The Shaver Mirror Lights – These lights are a simple but stylish invention commonly found in the average British bathroom. The mirror light is fitted to your bathroom wall and usually comes along with a concealed shaver socket allowing you to plug in your electric shaver – no running out of battery mid shave. The mirror also comes with illuminated lighting around the edges [The mirror is usually illuminated around the edges] making it easier to shave those hard to reach areas.
These mirrors usually come with a pull cord beneath the mirror or some even come with a touch sensitive switch. On top of all that, most modern versions are a very economical lighting solution for the modern bathroom.
The Shaver Wall Lights – Shaver wall lights are a great addition to a bathroom if you already have a mirror on the wall. These lights will be situated above your bathroom mirror and carry very much the same benefits as a shaver mirror light in that they contain a shaver socket and they can contain pull cords or touch switches. You can also purchase shaver bathroom lights with dimmable settings allowing you to adjust the lighting to meet your needs.
Stainless Dual Shaver Flat Sockets – This is a trendy acquisition for anyone with a modern, 21st century bathroom requiring shaver plugs for their bathroom. These decorative and fashionable steel grey shaver sockets are compliant with housing rules and regulations and you can purchase them for American, Australian, European and British shavers. The plug socket also has safety interlocked shutters, which greatly reduces the chances of any nasty electrical shocks in the bathroom.
Bathroom Uplighter – Another option to make your shave go as smoothly as possible is a bathroom uplighter. Some men find these beneficial when needing to shave under and around their chin. These uplighters come in a variety of designs, but chrome appears to be the most popular. These lights can also emit a great deal of heat, with some of the lights getting as hot as 40 degrees Celsius. Again, these can come with dimmable lights so you can adjust the brightness to your needs, and it should be noted that these uplighters should be used strictly indoors.
Once you have a few of these and maybe some other bathroom electrical accessories in place, together with your own shaving kit you will be fully equipped for the easiest shave you have probably ever had.

In the bathroom you can have all kinds of useful combinations of fittings, one of which is the wall lamp together with the shaver socket. Why install a shaver socket into the wall when you can have a switched light fitting above the mirror or part of the mirror light? You get both the light fitting and the shaver socket at the same time in the same place.
On our website we have some fittings for bathroom that come with: the bathroom mirror, the wall light, and the shaver socket! They are generally called Bathroom Shaver Lights. Some even have a cabinet incorporated – you get the bathroom cabinet (for the toiletries, pills, etc) with a lighted mirror as its door, with a pull cord switch at the bottom of the cabinet, and you also get a concealed shaver socket on one of the sides.
Many people still prefer the manual style of shaving, with the shaving cream / gel and the shaving blade, with a soothing or icy aftershave… But for those who still use the electrical shaver – whether you or your guests – you can install the stylish Seville Shaver wall light, or the Fuji Mirror Light with a Shaver Socket.

Bring your Bathroom into the 21st Century
With trends changing all the time, it can be hard to make sure that your home keeps up to date. There are so many innovative and exciting new products on the market today which can completely change the aesthetics, practicality and appeal of your home. So here we take a look at your bathroom and provide you with a range practical and luxurious changes you can make in order to spruce up your bathroom and give it a fashionable look. So if you are looking for a change, then here are some easy ways to bring your bathroom into the 21st century.
Ceiling Speakers – The bathroom is an easy place to go to get away from the stresses that come with your hectic lifestyle and what better way to enjoy a warm relaxing bath than with some of your favourite music subtly playing in the background. Combined with the correct bathroom lighting you can easily create a peaceful and tranquil environment for you to relax in after a hard day’s work. Many bathroom ceiling speakers will come equipped with waterproof designs meaning they are completely safe in your bathroom environment and can be fitted into your bathroom as part of a home audio system.
Bathroom Mirror Lights – Another popular addition to the 21st century bathroom is a bathroom mirror light, which is essentially a mirror with lighting around the edges. This has proved a popular addition as it can be very handy when getting ready for work in the morning or a night out in the evening. Mirror lights also come in a variety of styles which include a wall bathroom cabinet, lit mirrors with fully adjustable arms and low energy bathroom versions.
Open (Walk-in) Showers – More homeowners are looking in to installing walk-in showers in to their bathrooms, predominantly because they allow for more space to manoeuvre when showering. Having no door is also far more convenient as getting in and out is a great deal easier and it makes it easier to clean.
Low Volume Baths – If you are in love with your bath, then you may want to start thinking about the amount of water you use and how you can reduce it. There are now a variety of sleek and stylish low volume baths that will fit in to any bathroom design. Low Volume baths are shaped to match the contours of the human body, thus creating a more efficient area to be filled with water, and reducing the amount of water needed to fill a bath.
Re-tile/Re-decorate – In order to give your bathroom a clean and calm appeal, you may need to give it a bit of a facelift. This includes replacing any stained or cracked tiles and giving the bathroom a new lick of paint. Light colours tend to be popular as it reduces your dependency on very bright bathroom lighting (saving you money) and it generally emits a calming, clean atmosphere which is likely to be what you are looking for in a bathroom. Bathrooms tend to deteriorate far quicker than any other room in your house because of the often moist environment; so making sure you refresh regularly is essential to bringing your bathroom into the 21st century.

Astro Lighting Guide – the Task Lights in the bathroom, the Illuminated Mirrors
Posted by sparksdirect in all-time best-seller, ask Mr Sparks, bathroom lights, customer service, guest expert, lighting systems, products pictures, promotions on August 26, 2011
After presenting some ideas on planning the lighting in your bathroom and the general lighting fittings for bathrooms, in the full Astro Lighting guide to Bathroom Lights there are a series of Task Lights being introduced. The first one of them is the Illuminated Mirrors / Bathroom Mirror lights. This kind of fittings are more and more common nowadays for several reasons, from their energy saving options to the fact that you don’t see a “light fitting” there but you have light and a mirror!
Bathroom Task Lights – the Bathroom Illuminated Mirrors
The mirror above the basin in the bathroom is the equivalent of the desk in the office. It’s the hub of operations, where most of the ‘work’ takes place. You need not only the ceiling light but a more specific and localized light, which helps you see yourself in the mirror and “take care of the situation” accordingly.
There are several options, but the most effective is a solution that illuminates both sides of the face to ensure an even, flattering glow with no shadows. You can achieve this with either an illuminated mirror or wall lights positioned either side of the mirror.
The illuminated mirrors are sometimes called “back-lit bathroom mirrors”. Every basin needs a mirror, so illuminated mirrors provide a simple two-in-one solution. Some also incorporate shaver sockets. You can also choose from the mirrors with integrated horizontal or vertical lighting (see the AX0548 Fuji Mirror Light and Shaver Mirror for Bathrooms).
Some clever products also provide ambient lighting by giving a gentle wash of light behind the mirror which illuminates the wall and makes it appear to float(see the MIR1 Eclipse mirror – large circular mirror illuminated by 24 volt X-Flex Xenon lighting)
Top Tip for Bathroom Illuminated Mirrors: If you want to keep your mirror mist-free, a simple and inexpensive solution is to stick an electric demister pad onto the back. If you have an illuminated mirror, these will already have some slight residual warmth that will normally discourage condensation, but a demister pad can easily be added if your bathroom is particularly steamy.

This article is a continuation of the Astro Guide to Bathroom Lighting – Planning the lighting in your bathroom! Part of the full Astro Lighting Bathroom Fittings guide (download the PDF guide from online), these articles explain what fittings you need for bathrooms and particularly – what types of light fittings are our there for the bathroom! When it comes to lighting your bathroom, there are 3 main types of lighting to consider: General Lighting, Task Lighting, and Mood Lighting. In this article we will talk more about the General Lighting – keep an eye on our blog to see more details about the other types of lighting.
The Astro Lighting Guide to Bathroom lights -
the General Lighting Fittings
A ceiling light – see (a) below – in the centre of the room is an easy solution for illuminating the entire space but may not be so effective for creating any level of mood or interest.
If budgets are tight and you want to keep to a central ceiling solution then you could consider using surface-mounted spotlights (b). A triple spotlight can be individually directed onto three different points in the room to provide pools of light where you need it and a more interesting lighting scene.
A third alternative is recessed downlights (c). You may only need three or four for a typical size 2 x 2m bathroom. Position them close to the edges of the room in order to get an attractive scalloped wash down the wall. This approach provides very good general lighting but with a gentler, more sophisticated ambiance.

- (b) The bathroom Spotlights, for example: the Como Triple Spotlights on a round base(AX6107 triple ceiling spots);
- (c) The bathroom Downlights, for example the Brembo Round downlight(simlar to the AX5520 Garda Round Downlight).
